Perhaps one of the most anticipated pieces of hardware from the PGA Show 2023 – the ProTee VX Launch Monitor – is finally available and already shipping to those who pre-ordered. Additionally, according to the company’s website, new orders are being shipped within 2 weeks of purchase. As far as new launch monitors go, that’s a decent lead time and the VX is a device that is priced aggressively for what it brings to the table.
This overhead-mounted unit actually sits just in front of your hitting zone, making it even less space-conscious than nearly every other device on the market. In the unit are sensors for club direction and speed as well as ball launch angles, spin rates, and speed. Though we’ve heard that it helps to use highly marked balls (think Taylormade TP5), ProTee claims you can use unmarked balls as well and still get highly-accurate results.
ProTee VX Launch Monitor data points
- Ball Data: Ball Speed, Total Spin, Spin Axis, Back Spin, Side Spin, Launch Direction, Launch Angle
- Club Data (A.I.): Club Speed, Swing Path, Club Face Angle, Club Face to Path, Attack Angle, Dynamic Loft, Club Lie Angle, Impact Point Vertical & Horizontal.
- Flight Data: Flight Path, Apex Height, Apex Time, Total Distance, Carry Distance, Off Line, Air Time, Run, Descent Angle.
Now shipping at a great price
Again, devices like the EYE Mini that were announced well over a year before they actually shipped gave all of us in this space a good reason to be skeptical of new hardware launched at the PGA Show in general. But kudos to ProTee for getting this unit out the door at a price that is frankly astounding. Though Uneekor has a similar QED that goes for $7000 most days, this entry-level pricing of $6500 is aggressive and if the ProTee VX manages to deliver on the promises made, it’ll be the go-to device for a lot of folks looking for do-it-all simulator solution that doesn’t require marked golf balls.
Now, the site does show that $6500 price tag with a New product introductory price heading affixed, so it might not stay at this price forever. I’d wager that – depending on sales numbers – we could at least see the price go up to $7000 or $7500 down the road. But for now, the ProTee VX looks like a real contender in the home golf simulator space, and we’re hoping for a review unit at some point down the road. Stay tuned!
